Simple Home Security

There are plenty of home security systems to choose from. One going full expensive route by having professionals install it. Some DIY, and some straight out of a box.
Most people don’t have security and those who do, don’t always use it because it’s complicated. Drop Cam, Piper NV and Canary have solved that solution. However not all are the same. Drop Cam is a simple camera you can watch and record footage however there is a monthly fee for cloud storage for video. The problem with this is the fee can be costly. Another option is Canary. It is very new to the market but it has many features such as humidity, temperature, and air quality detection. It also has night vision and about 147 degrees wide angle 1080P resolution lens. The Piper, Piper NV, NV standing for night vision, is very similar to Canary. It has a feature on the app to covert one big video into quadrants. Zoom on certain things and such. Also it has host of accessories to control lights, and door entrance sensor which can be useful. However, there isn’t much difference between the two but the storage capacity. Both have basic free cloud storage with limit recordings. Canary allows you to download a saved footage which would help in case you need to submit it to police or insurance purposes. As for Piper NV, I only heard you cannot download video but it will save on their cloud. On flip side, it has battery back-up if power goes out. But if power goes out, your internet typically goes out. So you’ll have to buy host of battery APC back up unless you can put both router, internet modem, and Piper NV on same battery-backed outlets. Enjoy setting that up nicely.

For now I bought the Canary. Hopefully I will enjoy it. Why? It looks the best. Though it does not have 180 degree camera view, I find the 140 degrees (est) acceptable. Also the big selling point for me is downloading the video footage. So far, I tested what happens when you unplug the system like a power outage. It reconnected when the power was restored and back online. No need to redo all the system setups.
