Boost Control for Cars That Need More Traction

If you are trying to make a lot of power in a 2wd boosted vehicle, you have probably encountered the problem where you can’t run low enough boost to have traction in first gear, AND run high enough boost to make the power you want in higher gears because of the limitations of the wastegate spring. A 10psi wastegate spring will allow you to make as little as 10psi, but will struggle to make much more than a maximum of 20psi (100% increase). If you are trying to make 40psi in 4th, the smallest gate spring you would want to use is 20psi, but then that prevents you from getting the boost down to 10psi in 1st for traction. Well today we discuss how to use a 4 port boost control solenoid to solve this problem and have low boost in low gears and high boost in high gears without being held to the normal limitations of the wastegate spring.
