Anti-Lag System – The Prescription to Turbo Lag

Anti-Lag System is not system you put in a daily driver’s car. How do you know if you have anti-lag? What does it sound like? Well you know those Ken Block’s Gymkhana videos where he’s revving like hell before launching, and then as he do donuts and brakes around corners, and you hear the continuous engine popping? That is Anti-Lag System (ALS) in the works. Rally Cross cars have ALS because it keeps the turbo spinning to prevent turbo lag. You get immediate response from the engine and power to the ground. Also in Rally, they have little 2.0 liter engines pumping around 600+ horsepower. In order to consistency deliver power without loss of boost, ALS is there to help.

If you see recent Top Gear episode before the cancellation, James May goes Rally Crossing with America’s Top Gear professional Rally Driver, Tanner Foust. He briefly explains what ALS is and pretty much in a nutshell, once you turn the switch on, “all hell breaks loose” until you turn it back off.

Here is how the Engineering works behind Anti-Lag System
