Mercedes Benz took a LONG time to come out with their Dual Clutch Transmission. We have heard of the other 7G-tronic which confused some people thinking it was a Dual Cluth and that it can never handle the torque bellowed out from the V12. The V12 non-AMG and AMG both used 5-speed auto because it can handle 700+ ft pounds of torque. But now the 7G Dual Clutch Transmission is here and being mated with AMG engines, but not the V12 just yet. The V12 are now mated with 7-Speed AMG Speedshift Transmission.
Dual Clutch – Available up to the AMG V8 engines (Turbo) but not yet in V12. It is in AMG GT though. (Not available in S-Class or S-Class Coupe yet)
7-Speed AMG Speedshift Transmission – Multi-clutch or wet clutch replaced the torque converter. Upside it’s super strong and has faster shifts, but if you’re planning on racing a S-Class V8 or V12 family sedan or S-Class Coupe AMG V8 or V12, you bought the wrong car. Just appreciate the glorious power in straight line.
Here are details how 4Matic All Wheel Drive system works. I’m bit surprised it’s Front Wheel Drive focused though it can go all rear.
